Meters in a Marsh

By the time we arrived at our last location on Lake 373, it was raining steadily. Good for the fire risk, but unpleasant to work in. This cattail marsh on the northeast inlet of Lake 373 is now home to two more song meters.

Pond on Inlet of L373

There were many beautiful views on our field work at the ELA, including this small pond on the southwest inlet of L373. The pond used to be dammed by a beaver, but the beaver has since moved to the northeast wetland.

On L378

Today was a beautiful day to explore Lake 378. This was my first time on this pristine lake and the weather held for us. We went back and forth across the lake, trying to find the best locations for our sampling devices and explored inlets and outlets. This is a view you can see without a boat, as it’s right off camp road. Once you’re in the boat, you do need to watch out for randomly placed boulders and logs in the area.

Cedars and Cedar Fence

I went to the LPLT Kennedy Tract to try to locate the iron bars of the property corners of one of the parcels. I didn’t find the southern ones (though I found this decaying fence) in the dark cedar forest. I walked through a patch of poison ivy but thankfully did not get it, though I came out with a tick.

I took my niece out for the day to Campbellford and we visited downtown, Pethrick’s Corners, had a coffee, and went for a walk by the river.
The Trent is running high still and the view from the Ranney Gorge Bridge is great as usual.

It was another grey day but we went for a walk anyway. This stream runs closely along Goacher Rd. by Meyersburg.

G is pretty happy to have the sawmill working and he demonstrated board cutting with a basswood that he found lying in the field.
