A light snow (that quickly disappeared) sets off the exposed roots of this tree on the edge of the gully.

Midge on Tap

1/125s, f11, 800ISO, autoWB, 90mm Tamron macro.

I searched for information on these small midges (Diptera: Chironomidae: Orthocladiinae) that are attracted to maple sap but had no luck finding out what these midges are. My neighbour who also taps trees notes that more appear towards the end of the season.

1/50s, f4.5, 800ISO, autoWB, 30mm. levels adjusted

These are a few of the maple trees I tapped this year. They’re located in a gully on the edge of the property by the edge of Cold Creek.

A Bit More Snow

As is part of my now daily routine, I emptied the sap buckets and took some photos of the creek. But yes, it’s snowing again, settling on cedar needles.
